Glenbrook Station Upgrade

DesignInc Sydney - Glenbrook Station

Located in the Blue Mountains, Glenbrook Station has high heritage values and a unique bushland setting. As part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access program (TAP), Glenbrook Station was upgraded to be more welcoming and equitable, while retaining the existing character and heritage values of the site.

Upgrades include a new lift—providing easy access from the existing footbridge to both platforms—as well as new ambulant and family bathroom facilities, an upgraded kiss and ride zone and CCTV security.

Treading lightly

Recognising heritage values of the existing station, DesignInc’s solution treads lightly, carefully avoiding existing structures wherever possible and integrating materials and an aesthetic language that respond to the site. The brick lift base with simple steel framed glass above relates well to the existing footbridges and brick station buildings while still being clearly new elements.

A partially suspended accessible path meanders through the bushland setting, connecting the station to the nearby street.
