A strategic redevelopment that goes beyond surface upgrades—bringing
new life to a Brisbane icon.

The ‘Wedding Cake’ building, once a proud icon of Brisbane’s skyline, had lost its prominence after three decades, slipping below PCA A Grade status and struggling to attract tenants. In response, a bold redevelopment strategy was launched to breathe new life into the structure—one that went far beyond cosmetic upgrades.

The transformation began with a complete strip-back to the core structure, allowing the project team to reimagine the building from the ground up. A sleek new façade was installed alongside comprehensive upgrades to internal services, amenities, and vertical circulation systems. To enhance tenant experience and cater to contemporary workplace needs, new End-of-Trip facilities were introduced, and the multi-level lobby was reconfigured to foster a more vibrant and welcoming environment.

Innovative structural solutions allowed expansion of the floor plates, which led to a 10% NLA increase. Managing existing post-tensioned slabs and ensuring the integrity of a major rail tunnel that runs beneath the building’s edge were technical challenges managed through meticulous planning and execution in collaboration with the contractor.

Following completion of the base build, the rejuvenated structure has seen a new wave of activity. Our workplace team has delivered multiple bespoke tenancy fitouts, ensuring its continued success as a dynamic commercial hub.
