60 Castlereagh is an integral piece of commercial infrastructure in Dexus’ Central Sydney portfolio. Leveraging improvements over the last 10 years in the Martin Place precinct, Dexus are repositioning the legacy 60C building with public facing upgrades of the podium façade, lobbies and retail.
Externally, refining the existing material palette to primarily sandstone calms the busy mixture of stone types of the current façade, helping ground the building, A new deep frame over the existing curtain wall reproportions the façade and emphasises the main building entry. The lobby is similarly focused, with unification of materials and a single defining identity —timber rings define the volume of the lobby while offering protection from the east-west sun and acoustic diffusion.
Materials are selected from recycled and recyclable supplies in an aim to shift the culture of ‘disposable fashion’ for internal commercial finishes. The project was awarded the John Verge Award for Interior Architecture 2022 and was a finalist in the Australian Timber Design Awards.
