Yubup Park ‘A Park Close to Home’

Yubup Park provides green relief and a new life to for a disused, heritage listed, industrial building. Supported by City of Merri-bek’s ‘A Park Close to Home’ initiative, DesignInc and Outlines Landscape imagined a new civic life for the old warehouse building. The result provides the community with access to nature through a new public park, and a new hospitality tenancy nestled behind the existing heritage façades.
The sites industrial history and built form provided inspiration and was celebrated through the project. Existing brick walls and structural elements are retained and frame the activity and use of the park. The new building form, with its saw-tooth roof and exposed structure, echoes the historical building and remnant walls to provide abundant daylight and amenity to the internal space.
The new building was designed to allow for a range of potential uses from studio and workplace to hospitality. The foundations of a nature inspired palette, natural daylight with visual and physical connection to park allows for a full potential for future tenants and use.
