Ben Norris
I’m inspired by Urban Design’s ability to create lasting, positive change in our urban environments. There’s a unique opportunity in all projects to embed healthy, sustainable outcomes in the design of our streets, spaces and urban form—environmentally, socially and economically—and it’s this opportunity that drives me. Through a Caring for Country lens, liveability in all cities—not just Sydney—can be greatly improved by instilling a reciprocal relationship between people and their environment.
Ben’s an accomplished urban design practitioner, placemaking specialist and public realm strategist with over 10 years’ experience across Australia, Asia, the Middle East, and the UK. In conjunction with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) from UNSW, a Bachelor of Design in Architecture from University of Sydney, and currently undertaking a Masters of Urbanism (Urban Design), his expertise lies in future-focussed design strategy which shapes cities—blending a community’s needs with their vision for a sustainable, prosperous future. He’s received several accolades during his career, including Commendation for Excellence in Strategic Planning (PIA NSW 2024), Commendation for Leadership, Advocacy, and Research (Australia Urban Design Awards 2021), the Landscape Planning Award (AILA NSW 2019 and 2021), and the Urban Design Award of Excellence (AILA, NSW 2016). A member of UDA NSW, Ben has an innate interest in creativity and curiosity about the greater forces that shape the world we live in.
