The recently opened Dubai Mall is one of the world’s largest malls, and is part of the Downtown Burj Dubai complex, a landmark urban development in Dubai. The mall contains almost every luxury retail brand in the world, and has become an international tourist destination in its own right.
Designinc was commissioned to provide specialist expertise for the design of two premium food and beverage precincts – a food court of 9 000 sq m, and a café precinct of 3 500 sq m. The food court is the largest in the world, both in area and number of outlets, and contains several international brands as well as established local traders.
As it is so large, one of the overriding design requirements was to create a series of smaller precincts, including an outdoor dining area, within the space to create a sense of intimacy. This was achieved by distributing the outlets in clusters throughout the space and using various design elements to differentiate them.
The café precinct offers a casual dining experience for those who do not want to go to a food court but require something more casual than a restaurant. Again the emphasis was on creating zones within the space to create a sense of intimacy, and the use of high quality finishes and furniture creates a special dining experience.
