Byron Bay Tree Tops

Master Planning to Construction Services for Nine self-contained resort style accommodation houses, nestled in native Australian bushland. Each house has two bedrooms, kitchen, dining area, lounge room, two bathrooms, expansive decks, balconies and an external spa pool on the deck.

The lightweight construction does not permit the use of thermal mass as an environmental tool, instead louvred windows provide cooling east/west on shore ventilation. Morning sun warms the buildings, the northerly aspect is protected by bush and eaves extension, and minimal glazing protects the western face. This natural cooling process is completed by the large atrium space above the stairwell where continuous and permanent eaves ventilation lets warm air out of the top of the building, thus drawing cool air in from the understorey. Since their opening in 1993, the TimberTop houses have enjoyed 100% occupancy.
